Polystyrene is not generally collected in curbside recycling programs, unlike other plastic bottles or bags. Styrofoam is difficult to process and isn't separated or recycled due to the lack of proper equipment (PlasticsEurope, n.d.)

 

However, some locations do accept certain foam products, including utensils and food packaging. For clarity, look for the recycling symbol on the object. As an example, recycling symbols are present on the bottom of many foam cups! (Home for Foam, 2014)
